Dinner with a Twist
Gesher presents...
Dinner With a Twist
On Saturday, December 6, 2008, Gesher JDS will be holding an exciting new version of our annual Guardian of the Bridge event; Dinner With a Twist. This is the first of two fundraising events during this school year. The second event will be held in March.
The "Twist" is that this event will not be another dinner for 300 people held either here at Gesher or in a banquet facility. The 12 - 13 fabulous dinners will be hosted in the homes of supporters of Gesher Jewish Day School throughout Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington area. Each of these dinners will feature a 'Special Guest', ranging from columnists and political analysts, to the former director of the Washington Performing Arts Society and the Director of the American Film Institute. You might also have the opportunity to dine with a Time magazine correspondent and author or a guest from the National Gallery of Art who will talk about ways to build that art collection you have always wanted to start in your home.
This event is being chaired by Margaret Feinstein and David Sattler, who have been working diligently with our VP of Fundraising, Jane Shichman, to secure host homes and guest speakers for this event. We would also like to extend a special thank you to a long-time Gesher supporter, Louise Klein Hodin for her suggestions and assistance with this event, and for bringing the idea of this program to our attention. The model for this event is a program called "Matters of Taste" which has been running successfully at The Jewish Community Day School (JCDS) in Watertown, Massachusetts for many years.
The Dinner With a Twist committee would like to thank our hosts for opening their homes for this event (as of press time); Rachel and Elliot Abrams, Peggy and Arye Ephrath, Meryl and Joel Goldhammer, Missy and Mark Isakowitz, Talya and Rabbi David Kalender, Ellen and Ron Katz, Heidi and Steven Lamar, Elana Millstein and Rob Yunich, Ann and Rabbi Jack Moline, Cynthia and Mark Rutzick, Rabbi Amy Schwartzman and Kevin Moss, and Deanna and Larry Shuman.
The evening will begin with an Opening Reception to be held at Gesher JDS and open to all community members, including our dinner guests. There is no charge for this reception, and everyone is invited to attend. After the reception, our dinner guests will proceed to their hosts' homes.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Gesher JDS Scholarship Fund in an effort to ensure that no child is denied a Gesher JDS education for financial reasons.
Watch your mail in the next few weeks for your invitation and program book, listing our guest speakers, our host homes and the wonderful dinners being offered by our hosts. Space is limited at each dinner, and we ask that you RSVP as soon as you receive your program book/invitation. Dinner assignments will be made in the order responses are received.
